Quitting On The Lord

God*s children cannot stop being His children but they can quit serving Him. I have known Christians who have quit on Him many times and even for many years and some who have never come back to serving Him. Their lives became miserable disasters. They became more miserable than they were before they were saved. I too have become miserable when I have quit on the Lord. I cannot count the times I have quit on Him even in the course of just one day. My misery and the misery of others who have quit on Him should make us afraid to quit on Him. The Bible exhorts us often to continue in the things of God. That exhortation would not be necessary if our flesh were always willing to continue.

John 8:31: Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

John 15:9: As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

Acts 13:43: Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.

Acts 14:22: Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

Colossians 4:2: Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

1 Timothy 4:16: Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

2 Timothy 3:14: But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

Hebrews 13:1: Let brotherly love continue.

Luke 9:23: And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Jesus would not have said that if He did not know we would lay our crosses down so often.

John 5:14b: . . . Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

Jesus wants every saved individual to go and sin no more. When we are tempted He makes a way of escape and when we don*t use that way He wants us to confess it and He promises to forgive it. He wants us to take up our cross and follow Him again every time we sin. What amazing mercy!!

1 Corinthians 10:13: There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
